Training of Teachers as Agents in the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse

Resumo

O enfoque do presente artigo é fomentar a reflexão sobre o problema real do abuso sexual infantil em nossa sociedade e o papel potente do professor para a prevenção e proteção das crianças. Para isso, esses profissionais precisam ser capacitados desde a graduação para que tenham acesso ao conhecimento específico, bem como na formação continuada, para que permaneçam aprendendo e utilizando ferramentas e estratégias eficientes, como é o caso da literatura infantil. Nossos docentes foram educados mediante os padrões tradicionais e repressores da sociedade, nos quais a educação sexual é um tabu. Assim, não aprenderam a identificar os tipos de abuso sexual, nem como prevenir, por isso é essencial uma formação adequada para que possam trazer o tema para as escolas em todo o país de maneira didática e segura.

Abstract

The focus of this article is to bring up a reflection about the real problem of child sexual abuse in our society and the powerful role of the teacher in the prevention and protection of children. For this to happen, these professionals need to be trained since graduation so that they have access to specific knowledge, as well as in continuing education, so that they keep learning and using efficient tools and strategies, as is the case of children's literature. Our teachers were educated through the traditional and repressive patterns of society, in which sex education is a taboo. Therefore, they have not learned how to identify the types of sexual abuse, nor how to prevent it, so an adequate training is essential so that they can bring the topic to schools all over the country in a didactic and safe way.
