As razões de estado e seus fracassos no período colonial: memória da educação no Pará

Resumo

Este artigo tem por objetivo responder algumas questões derivadas de uma pesquisa de longo alcance histórico, visando compreender o processo de fabricação social dos indivíduos, levando em conta, para isso, a produção das significações imaginárias sociais, no sentido originalmente atribuído por Cornelius Castoriadis. Toma-se como elemento central o processo de imposição de uma nova cultura, a partir da proposta colonial de evangelização/educação/civilização, realizada através de práticas dilaceradoras da identidade étnica do gentio, para se obter um novo personagem: o cristão, súdito de sua majestade. Intenta-se compreender com a pesquisa documental sobre o período: 1) como e em que medida a escola efetivamente contribui para a fabricação social desses indivíduos; 2) o estabelecimento dos parâmetros demarcatórios de atuação dos grupos e a paciente elaboração dos habitus, a validação das diferenças socioculturais e o jogo pelo poder; e 3) que decisões políticas referentes à educação na Amazônia foram relevantes até o final do século XVIII, cujas consequências podem ser percebidas durante as quatro décadas iniciais do século XIX.

The State’s reasons and its failures during the colonial period: the memory of education in Pará

This article has the objective of answering some questions derived from a long-range historical research, aiming to understand the process of social fabrication of individuals, taking into account, for that purpose, the production of social imaginary significations, in the sense originally assigned by Cornelius Castoriadis. I take as central element the process of imposing a new culture, from the colonial proposition of evangelization/education/civilization carried out by means of dilacerating practices of the ethnic identity of the heathen, in order to obtain a new character: the Christian, subject to his majesty. We intend to understand, with documentary research on the period: 1) how and to what extent the school effectively contributes to the social fabrication of these individuals, 2) the establishment of demarcating criteria for the actions of groups and the patient elaboration of habitus, the validation of social-cultural differences and the power game, and 3) which political decisions related to education in the Amazon were relevant up to the late eighteenth century, the consequences of which may be perceived during the initial four decades of the nineteenth century.
